The GYROTONIC® Method

Gyrotonic Expansion Tower

About
The Gyrotonic method is an orginal, and unique movement practice which has roots in Yoga, Tai Chi, and dance. Gyrotonic exercise sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions, with corresponding breath. WIth Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.

Specialized Equipment
The body is designed to work as one harmonious system,to follow arcing and spiraling paths of motion, and to transition from one movement to the next smoothly, and efficiently. Gyrotonic method creator, Juliu Horvath , designed a specialized line of equipment around these natural movement patterns of the human body.

Because Gyrotonic equipment is highly adjustable, it can be customized to fit each persons unique physique, and ability, adapting for things such as height, arm and leg length and physical ability.

For Everyone
Gyrotonic classes can be adapted to fit anyone’s ability. The Gyrotonic method is practiced by people from all walks of life, including ccomplished athletes and dancers, college students, baby boomers, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.

SPOTLIGHT ON YELENA SHOR

SPOTLIGHT ON…..YELENA SHOR
Please meet Yelena Shor, our Russian GYROTONIC® instructor.

Yelena, how long have you been teaching GYROTONIC® and what called you to teaching?
I have been teaching movement for awareness for over 10 years, and GYROTONIC® for 4 years. I am a learner and a communicator by nature, and I believe in sharing knowledge that enhances people’s lives. We experience everything though our bodymind, it is our our instrument of living. When our bodies are clogged up and unwell, our “reception” is fuzzy and the “songs” we write with our lives aren’t to our full potential. Learning and teaching how to keep it well-tuned and in good functioning order was a natural choice for me.

Who is your ideal client?
Anyone who wants to feel at home and at ease in their body.

Which is your favorite GYROTONIC® exercise and why?
I love ARM CIRCLES – because they open the heart and help release stress and tightness from neck and shoulders, this is what I call a “GYROTONIC® dessert”.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at Inspiring Motion Laguna?
Some of my favorite activities are playing djembe (african drum), being in nature, reading, taking classes on mysteries and practicalities of life, and meeting interesting people.

What can’t you live without?
A community of like-minded and open-hearted people, learning, growing, and laughing.

What is your favorite food at the moment?
Pineapple…fresh, dry, juiced… pineapple rules!

What are you looking forward to this year?
I am really enjoying my coaching sessions with Candice and look forward to working out the details of my personal business plan. Also, looking forward to several upcoming GYROTONIC® workshops, including Level 2, and Jumping/Stretching Board.

Thanks Yelena!

Releasing Your Spine with the P500

Want to look and feel your best? Well we can help!

THE MAGIC OF THE P500
When you are at Inspiring Motion Laguna laying on your little red P500 ball doing your wonderful ‘Sacrum Massage’ and achieving your neutral spine – have you ever wondered what your sacrum is? Well it’s a large triangular bone at the base of the lower spine. Its broad upper part joins the lowest lumbar vertebrae and its narrow lower part joins the coccyx or “tail bone”. The sacrum is wedged between the coxal bones of the pelvis and the sides are connected to the iliums (the largest bones forming the pelvis) The five vertebrae that make up the sacrum are separated in early life, but gradually become fused together between the eighteenth and thirtieth years – get the picture? (When I do my sacrum massage I am actually wondering what my tail might look like if I had one! I think it would be very long and curl at the end! What might yours look like? – Ed.)

We look forward to seeing you soon.
To your health!

Who is the Diva Behind Inspiring Motion Laguna?

SPOTLIGHT ON…..JENNINE BAILLIE
Here is the second of our ‘spotlight series’ if you haven’t already worked with her, meet Jennine our bubbly Pilates and GYROTONIC® instructor.

– Jennine, how long have you been teaching Pilates and what called you to teaching?
I have been teaching Pilates since 2007 and studying since 2001. I began teaching and studying GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® in 2008.

For a teacher or instructor, the talent or gift to teach is an ingredient that is already present, and I have been very fortunate to be able to share my knowledge of movement and exercise for over thirty years. I was drawn to Pilates and wanted to teach it because I knew I would be able to use it for the rest of my life. I love Pilates’ general principles which is similar to the discipline used in ballet training and the first time I got on the GYROTONIC® pulley tower, it felt so incredibly good that I HAD to teach it!

– Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is anyone who has a genuine interest in strengthening and toning their body, and also learning about how their body works.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at Inspiring Motion Laguna?
I love to stay in shape by riding the Elliptical, taking my Scotties for runs, and strength training. Of course, I always try to get in a Pilates or GYROTONIC® workout each day to invent new challenges for my clients. I also love going to the movies, spending time with my family and friends, and shopping on Ebay!! I love a bargain!!

– What can’t you live without?
I absolutely cannot live without a good “cup o’ Joe” in the morning, my Scottie girl, Kate, and Creme de la Mer face cream.

– What is your favorite food at the moment?
My favorite food depends on my mood and the time of day. In the AM, I love buttery blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. In the PM, a big, bold red Cabernet Sauvignon paired with freshly baked bread and Stilton cheese makes my mouth water.
